GROVE PARK

Rearrangement of a first floor apartment within a Georgian illa.

Grade II listed. Camberwell Grove Conservation Area.

In progress.

Rearrangement of the first floor ‘piano nobile’ flat in one of the few remaining villa’s in Camberwell in the Camberwell Grove Conservation Area. The building had originally been converted to a house of multiple occupation in the 1920s, but had a more recent extensive renovation in the 1970s. The works were of high quality generally however the arrangement needed updating for modern living standards.

The entrance sequence needed uplifting to be a similar quality to the two main rooms in the flat. The kitchen was comparatively small and dark while the dining area was a long way from food preparation. Works included relocation the kitchen and bathrooms and reorganising the living accommodation to contemporary standards. Proposals included the careful re-use of the existing historic kitchen and bathroom joinery. The consideration of fire regulations and the accessibility of services due to the nature of covered flats was important.
