I’m passionate about adapting historic buildings to meet modern needs. I am most proud of the projects where I have proposed sensitive, strategic and minimal interventions to use fewer materials, reduce time on site, minimise disruption and have delivered the greatest impact. I aim to keep historic buildings, monuments, and sites useful and relevant, from medieval barns to postmodern office blocks, while preserving their historic value for future generations.
My experience ranges from the Palace of Westminster Restoration and Renewal Programme - the UK’s largest conservation project - to individual stone repairs on 18th century cottages. I specialise in sensitive historic sites, including conservation areas, listed buildings, and scheduled monuments, with a strong grasp of planning policy, listed building consent, and heritage legislation.
With the launch of my own practice, I’m continuing my commitment to sustainable, detail focused conservation - working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and skilled craftspeople to preserve our built heritage and ensure it remains adaptable for the future.
Over nearly 20 years, I’ve worked with leading design-focused practices including Long & Kentish, AOC, Adams & Sutherland, and most recently BDP London. I studied at the Bartlett (UCL) and Glasgow School of Art, and have taught and critiqued at several UK architecture schools.
If you’re looking for help conserving, adapting, reusing or better understanding your building with a sensitive, pragmatic approach - get in touch. I’d love to hear about your project.
